Here is a very unusual inkstand. It is made of wood with applied chased brasses pieces inset with banded agates set in bezels. The brass is attached with brass brads. I’m not certain what kind of wood the base is, the top is veneered with rosewood. The inkwell is very thick, heavy glass with brass hinged lid. The lid is inlaid on the top with wood. There are 3 small wooden feet on the base. I believe the origin of this piece is Scotland and it was made circa 1870.The condition is very good. The base measures 13″ x 10″ x 1 1/2″. The inkwell measures 3″ x 3″. The base of the inkwell shows heavy wear and has a few tiny flea bites on the outer edge.
